Midland Counties CS - 26/10/2025

Peter Sheppard

I am grateful to the Officers and Committee of the Midland Counties Canine Society for giving me the opportunity to give CCs to Italian Spinone for the first time. I am also grateful to Gavin, my steward, who by himself kept the ring running smoothly.
I am also very grateful to the Spinone owners who entered under me and I was especially delighted to see a large number of young puppies, for whom, this was there first show. I hope they have long and successful careers.
I was judging the dogs as I saw them on the day, in my assessment I was looking for balanced dogs, who not only met the breed standard, but would be able to spend a day in the field, that is fit for function. As may be expected I found a number whose proportions were not ideal and I am sure will grow into themselves in due course. I did find a number who were carrying a bit more weight than possibly they should. I found no major health issues during my examination of the exhibits and I was delighted, as ever, with the temperament of this breed, which is just delightful.
My final comment relates to ringcraft and some exhibitors may need to note that the movement should start and finish with the dog in front of the judge. I did have to move on a large number of occasions to enable this as the dogs were either started or finished to my left or right!

If we have made any errors or omissions in our Spinone results, please
accept our apologies and email corrections to results@italianspinone.co.uk

Minor Puppy Dog . Dog (2 entries, 1 absent) Owner Critique
1st Lucoru Fire and Ice for Dewdhala
Wagh 7 months old he is developing nicely but with good proportions. Balanced head, short neck and typical topline. The chest is still to develop. Angulation a bit loose, but only to be expected at this age. He moved well maintaining the topline on the move and the tail horizontal.

Puppy Dog . Dog (3 entries, 1 absent) Owner Critique
1st Piacente Uomo Saggio
James 10 months old and in a sweet spot of development. The proportions were good and everything was balanced and reasonably well filled out for the age. Good front angulation with a parallel front and depth of chest. A typical topline that was held on the move, reasonable turn of stifle with low hocks. Moved with purpose in the typical Spinone trot. Best Dog Puppy, Best Puppy and Best Special Beginner.
2nd Cartrefyspin Oren Seville
Preston Just a month younger than #1 but was not quite in proportion with the body needing to fill out a little to catch up with the legs! A good expression, balanced head and neck. Body lacking depth. Parallel front, but less width for the chest as #1. Slightly slower around the ring.

.

Junior Dog . Dog (4 entries, 1 absent) Owner Critique
1st Osulf Peanuts Barney
Blanchard Smaller in height than some, but well within the breed standard and of good proportions. At just in Junior, another dog that is in the “sweet spot” of growth where everything is in proportion. Nothing overdone, correct front and lay of shoulders, parallel front with reasonable space for chest, solid and well muscled. Moved well holding the topline on the move.
2nd Stowledge Soul of Blymara
Blythe At 17 months, almost out of Junior. Heaver built than #1, but with a lesser depth of chest and slightly longer neck. Other proportions were satisfactory. Correct topline, held on the move. Lesser turn of stifle but good muscling to the rear. Movement was OK.
3rd Inostricani Time Will Tell

1st Testaverde Pilfer N Purloin
Mountain Loved the head when this dog appeared in the ring. Everything just looked right! Correct proportions, well balanced. Good depth of chest and width of front. Good lay of shoulders and length of upper arm for the front angulation. Typical Spinone topline held on the move. Correct tailset, well muscled rear with low hocks and reasonable turn of stifle. Dog Challenge Certificate.
2nd Tolosa Tallegio
Falberg & Buckley Slightly shorter in the body than my #1. Apart from that a balanced head, short neck reasonable depth of chest and correct front angulation. Well muscled but not overdone. Topline not held on the move as well as my #1.

1st Piccolonoce Monty Bojangle
Barratt At the upper end of the breed size for males, but well proportioned. Correct head with a shortish neck, deep chest and parallel front leading into well laid back shoulders. The typical profile for the back and a correct tailset. Moderate turn of stifle, well let down hocks. Moved well around the ring. Reserve Dog Challenge Certificate.
2nd Diggmere Tiger Swallowtail (JW ShCEX OSW)
Duncan Slightly shorter than #1, but still in proportion and nicely balanced. Typical head and expression, short neck and reasonable depth of chest. Parallel front and good depth of chest. Lesser turn of stifle and slightly straighter pastern. Did not move with quite as much enthusiasm as my #1.

Good turn of stifle correct tailset held horizontal on the move. Moved well.

1st Scodinzolare Pashmina of Pendio
Kemp This was a very mixed class, however this puppy at just over 6 months stood out. Whilst very young, the proportions weren’t far off, A balanced head, typical expression, a short neck into laid back shoulders. A developing chest, with a parallel front. At this point in development slightly bum high when standing, but more typical on the move. Best Bitch Puppy.
2nd Ilsolo Brezza Di Angelo at Teazledown
Bruce A very similar age to my #1, but at a slightly different stage in development, but still reasonably proportioned. A correct head, shortish neck and developing chest, but with a parallel front. Moved well, but at the moment, bum high when standing and on the move.

1st Gellini Special Edition
Pugh At 11 months and 29 days, only 2 days of “Puppy” classes left. This maturity showed in the class. Reasonably well proportioned. Balanced head with a slightly long neck, well laid back shoulders, developing chest and parallel front. Correct topline and good tailset. Moderate turn of stifle and muscles developing nicely.
2nd Piacente Mocia at Miavita
Giles 10 months old and slightly leggy. Apart from that a reasonably balanced bitch. Correctly proportioned head, a slightly long neck at this stage, chest reasonably deep, but still some development to happen. Parallel front, moderate turn of stifle, reasonable movement.

1st Inostricani Blossom
Rossiter At 13 months, only just into Junior, but at a good point of development. Chunky, but well proportioned and not overdone. Lovely head, great expression and a short neck into well spaced and laid back shoulders. Reasonable depth of chest and parallel front. Typical topline and correct tailset. Moderate turn of stifle, well let down hocks. Moved with drive.
2nd Stowledge Scilla at Incantevole (JW)
Kruglow At 17 months, at the other end of the age range. Just looking a little leggy at the moment that I am sure will change over the next few months. Finer than my #1, but still retaining a reasonable balance. Correctly proportioned head, longish neck. The chest is shallow at the moment, but I am sure will develop as she matures. More pronounced topline, correct tailset, held on the move.
3rd Inostricani Mabel at Fossundale

1st Lajatico Bobini
Wain Pleasant looking bitch with good balance and proportions. Nothing overdone. Correct head with super expression, moderate neck into well laid back shoulders. Good depth of chest and broad, parallel front. Correct topline held on the move. Moved with drive and purpose.
2nd Fiducia Chamlang
McGregor Marginally shorter in the leg than my #1, otherwise a correctly proportioned head and short neck. Good depth of chest, slightly narrow front. Correct topline that was held on the move. It was nice to see a young handler manage her exhibit so well, including standing her for the judge’s critique.

1st Dewdhala Sempre Agnese (JW Jww24)
Wagh This was a large class but when this bitch entered the ring, she just did it all! Very well balanced and proportioned. Super head into a moderate length neck, well angulated front with good depth and breadth of the chest. Correct topline and tailset, held on the move and she moved around the ring with good drive and animation. It was that movement and animation that gave her the Best of Breed. Bitch Challenge Certificate and Best of Breed.
2nd Talpalupo Lorella
Corbett It was a close run thing between this bitch and my #1. Again, overall well balanced and proportioned with nothing overdone. The only difference with my #1 were a slightly longer neck, a lesser turn of stifle and not quite the same drive and animation on the move.

Open Bitch . Dog (5 entries, 2 absent) Owner Critique
1st Sh Ch Amberellie Rosanna (ShCEX)
Kruglow A smaller bitch compared to some (but well within the breed standard) and as they say, small but perfectly formed. Correct head with that super Spinone expression. Moderate neck into well laid back shoulders. Stands square with a parallel front and good depth and breadth of chest. Correct topline and tailset. Moderate turn of stifle and low set hocks. Well muscled and moved well. Reserve Bitch Challenge Certificate
2nd Sh Ch Annilann Temptress del Michiamo (JW)
Anderson & Mayne Another well balanced and proportioned bitch. There was not a lot to choose between her and my #1. What tipped the balance was that this bitches movement was not quite as purposeful and she held her tail quite high on the move.

Veteran Bitch . Dog (7 entries, 2 absent) Owner Critique
1st Sh Ch Prottino del Vera by Dewdhala
Wagh At 8½ year old, a relative newcomer to the veterans. The proportions were correct with a typical head, moderate neck and well laid back shoulders. Good depth of chest and reasonable width. Front was parallel. Good turn of stifle and low hocks. Correct Topline, held on the move. Best Veteran.
2nd Sh Ch Inostricani Palmina del Macarica (JW ShCM)
Allum A true veteran at 10½ years, but she still has it! Proportions overall were good with a correct head and short neck. Front angulation was good with a good depth of chest. Retaining good muscle, a lesser turn of stifle and the movement was not quite as purposeful and my #1.

Beecham & Sharp 13-month-old Spinone boy with a super head & kind expression. Excellent forehand with straight front which is well boned right down to well arched toes, he is well balanced through the body, deep chest, well ribbed back with correct topline. Good turn of stifle, well let down hocks, super coat with harsh texture, he moved out freely with a good stride.
